Sprints or a jog outside is my favorite form of cardio, but not much of that is happening in these cold, New York temperatures. Fortunately, there’s a new boutique fitness studio in town that will satisfy my need for foot speed. It’s New York City’s first treadmill running studio—the Mile High Run Club.
Having just opened in November 2014, the studio offers two classes: Dash 28—for all levels of fitness, combining sprints and off-treadmill strength training—and The Distance—designed for more advanced runners with more minutes on the treadmill focused on tempo runs, hills and sprints.
You don’t need to be an Olympian to train at the Mile High Run Club. The studio caters to all fitness levels and, with your own designated treadmill for the duration of each class, you can go at a pace that challenges your personal level of fitness.
What To Expect
The Mile High’s Dash 28 is a 45-minute workout that begins off the treadmill with a dynamic warm-up — including lunges, jumping jacks and squats — followed by a four-minute, light jog on the treadmill. The jog then leads to intervals of sprints and incline runs, making the actual time on the treadmill a combined 28 minutes.
The last part of the class is dedicated to strength training using kettlebells, then a little core work in the form of planks, followed by a nice cool-down stretch.
